August 24 Metros 2 v Mitchie Nics 4 Mitchie Nics wrapped up the premiership with a hard fought victory over Metros at Richlands Stadium. Needing to win or draw the Nics found themselves 2 - 1 down at half time. But a determined second half saw the Nics get on top and finish off the year on a good. Congratulations to all the boys on a great year. August 08 Redlands Redstars 0 v Mitchie Nics 1 Celtic v Rangers, Collingwood v Carlton, Qld v NSW and then there Redstars v Nics. Another close and tough encounter out at Redlands in what was a game of two halfs. Redlands came out determined to put it to the Nics and with tight marking on the Nics star strikers we lacked the ability to go forward while they had the possesion they did not have to many chances and what they did have Big Jules handled with his normal confident ease.Scotty K, Tony B and Dan all scrambled and defended well to go to the break nil all. The second half saw a turn around with the Nics beginning to dominate possesion. Peter B, Ray P, Pedr K and Mike I began to get involved and win some ball. Paul and Glenn where starting to find some space and the Nics had a couple of chances to go up. Big Kev swapped with Glenn with immediate results and a header which looked like it was in all the way was saved by the Redlands keeper. Not to be denied 10 mins from time he headed in for the Nics to go to the lead, much to the dissapointment of Redlands. The Nics defended stoutly for the remaining 10 to get home. Man of the match Glenn R epitimised a gutsy effort by the Nics who only had 1 on the bench. Another great managerial performnce by Johnny Mc, I think he nearly busted his double hernia again. Well done boys. Also congratulations to Chrs & Shanni on their new arrival, a bouncing baby striker. August 01 Wynumm Wolves 2 v Mitchie Nics 6 A depleted Nics traveled to Wynumm with fond memories of their club house. Without there solid (literally) keeper Big Jules and a number of other stars it looked like it was going to be a tough night. Mark G graciously (after $20) agreed to play between the sticks and while there was a substantial diffrent physical presence he did a great job. Wynumm were up 1 early but to the Nics credit they bounced back strongly. After a bit of a lean period Pauls return to form was stunning. His first goal a cracker. This was followed up by a great run from Nigel to earn a penalty. Up stepped super coach and cooly slotted it away. Another 3 great goals from Paul and another cracker from Mike put gave the Nics 6 while Wynumm slotted away a penalty after Tony B mistook the guys shin for the ball. No malice intended though. A good solid game by all. Thanks to Mark for going in goals and Nigel and Trouphy for helping out. Man of the match though goes to Johnny Mc for a round of drinks after the game. Heres luck. Mitchie Nics 4 v Samford Mountain Men 0 This was Mitchies last home game of the year and only home game of the round so we expected a big crowd to get there. We were greatly appreciative of Walshy and Jenny for showing up, it swelled our normal numbers. We welcomed back Tony B from a long lay off and he had a solid game with the knee holding up. In a hard fought first half we lost Pete Britt to a head knock after he tried to out jump a mountain man who stood about 3 foot higher than him. Again thanks to Walshy & Jen who made sure the dazed and bloodied Pete got home alright. NZ Ray informed later that in his kick boxing days that would have been considered nothing and he would have fought on. I think he was suggesting Pete was a bit of a girls blouse. Anyway Mitchie took the game 4 - 0 with Glenn R getting 2, Ray 1 and Paul 1, maybe showing his is ready to hit form again. July 20 Jimboomba 2 v Mitchie Nics 1We made the long long trip to Jimboomba. One car got lost at the Gap so we were pleased when they arrived on time. In freezing conditions the game started late which meant it was going to be an even later night. The club house though was well stocked particularly with that great Australian beer VB. The Nics arrived and it looked like some had alreday imbided on the way out but that was only the beginning as we sat around a communal fire and consumed vast amounts of refreshments. Big jules had borrowed his wifes cosmetic case which served as ready made esky for the trip home.
Pete Britt was to have his first whisky as a roadie and in preparation I assurred that my phone was turned off on the trip home and sure enough a dozen missed calls and one garbled voice message was found there in the morning. Thanks to all drivers for getting us home safely.
And and yes we lost, I think it was my back pass that set up the winning goal. I'm glad we didn't win I don't think I would have survived the night.
